SDAMFT MISSION STATEMENT

South Dakota Association of Marriage and Family Therapy – your professional advocate for collective voice, progressive vision, and skilled practice.

STRATEGIC PLAN —
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Develop and implement a strong organizational structure and culture that empowers leadership growth and succession.
    1. Maintain sound fiscal policies.
    2. Recruit and train members into leadership roles.
    3. Create realistic working policies for SDAMFT that move the Board towards “Policy Governance” model.
    4. Maintain strong ethics, fairness, and openness in SDAMFT business and guidelines.
    5. Recruit and retain members.
    6. Activate West River membership.
  2. Promote the parity of LMFTs with other mental health providers.
    1. Achieve reimbursement for LMFTs under DakotaCare.
    2. Continue to support AAMFT’s efforts to obtain Medicare coverage for LMFTs.
    3. Increase job opportunities for LMFTs
    4. Continue legislative advocacy and networking with state legislators.
    5. Remain active participants on The SD Coalition for Mental Health Providers.
    6. Ensure representation of LMFTs on the SD Board of Examiners for Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists.
  3. Create a strong presence for LMFTs throughout SD.
    1. Increase community awareness about the MFT profession.
    2. Become recognized as experts and resources on issues related to MFT.
    3. Provide public forums related to marriage and families.
    4. Develop a media plan.
  4. Develop an educational environment in SD that supports MFT and licensure.
    1. Create working relationships with faculty/administration at graduate institutions.
    2. Identify channels through which students can achieve MFT education and licensure.
    3. Encourage LMFTs to teach in graduated institutions.
    4. Provide continuing education opportunities for LMFTs.
    5. Develop a COAMFTE accredited program in SD by 2010.
    6. Ensure representation of LMFTs on the licensing board.
    7. Promote ethical practice for all LMFTs.
