He also suggested that there be a third signer on checks – he will look into this option. Mary Guth recommended locating a different bank because she and Morris have personal accounts there. They will look into this further.

Cookie Day
Marry Guth and Ann Marie Rossing will attend Cookie Day on February 4, 2008. If anyone else would like to attend, please contact them.

Current Legislation
Custody Evaluations: There are questions regarding who can perform custody evaluations. A bill has been proposed by the state department of Rape and Domestic Violence. Dan Digatono commented that MFTs are specifically mentioned on this bill. Mary Guth will continue to look into this bill and opportunities for MFTs.

The South Dakota Board of Counselor Examiners has been renamed as the Board of Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists. There will be legislation coming in the next two years to turn our law into a “practice law” as the LPC’s accomplished last year. Discussion about the need to hire a lobbyist was held.

Election of Officers
Morris Patzlaff and Pam Beck have one remaining year of office as treasurer and secretary. Mary Guth is now President. Jerry VanderLee has been nominated as president elect. A letter regarding the election of the president elect position will be sent to MFT members.
