Treasurer’s Report
DAKOTACARE Update
LMFTs have been given vendorship. Packets from the company have been mailed out to apply. Dan Digatono reported that he talked with Dawn and she is willing to come and speak with us so that we understand the limits of the coverage they offer and we are careful to be in compliance with their rules. We have an obligation to our clients to understand the limits and share those with them. Someone from DAKOTACARE will come to our next meeting.
AAMFT Leadership Conference, Washington DC, March 22-25, 2007
Morris Patzlaff (current treasurer) and Dan Digatono are both considering attending. Dan is checking a personal commitment, but is interested in going. Ann Marie will explore the travel grant to cover some of the expenses.
AAMFT Summer Institute, Rapid City-July 19-26, 2007
AAMFT will be holding the Summer Institute in Rapid City. There was discussion about how we might be of help and encourage our membership to attend. Mona Wade volunteered to talk with Karen Gautney in DC about possibilities of how we could possibly assist.
Fall Conference October 26, 2007
Discussion about different speakers for the fall conference. One was Doug Rosenau speaking on sexuality concerns and Mary Guth had heard a speaker on the same topic. Much discussion about the fall meeting, no conclusions, but we are exploring the options and possibly moving the conference earlier and extending the conference to an additional ½ or extra day. Another idea was doing an ethics workshop of just 4 hours. No conclusions at this point, lots of discussion.
Cookie Day in Pierre, February 9, 2007
Ann Marie and Susie VanDyke are planning on going to Pierre. Jerry Vander Lee expressed interest in joining the group that day.
Lesislative update
SB 49 is moving into the senate for a vote. (This gives the Department the ability to promulgate rules for MFTs. HB1056 is the counselor bill that protects the public from unlicensed folks calling themselves counselors.
Attorney General Larry Long wrote a legal opinion stating that our law for the MFTs (SD36-33-4) is a title law not a practice law. There were concerns as to whether we could or should take action legislatively. A number of different opinions felt first we could not do anything this year anyway and secondly that the counselor bill would also protect our practice. No legislative action will be taken by SDAMFT other than to send a letter of support for the Counselor bill.
With the help of Kathy Sazama, a letter was drafted to Larry Iverson regarding Medicaid and to see MFTs as qualified providers.
There was some discussion about the next newsletter. Dan Digatono will be one of the featured MFTs and someone from West River. Other ideas were discussed.
Meeting adjourned 1:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted, Ann Marie Rossing, SDAMFT President
