Treasurer’s Report (Morris)
Current Balance – $3,308.53.

Fall Conference

1. Kathy Sazama reported she had a conversation with Craig Nokken who would speak about addictions as it relates to couples. His fee would be $1,500 per day plus expenses. The date, October 27, 2006 is available for him. The discussion was favorable to pursue him for the fall. We have sufficient funds to bring him, and Morris shared he heard him speak in the past here in Sioux Falls. He reported that Craig is a good presenter, people liked him and it may be a good draw.
2. Mona reported that the Scream Free Parenting presenter would be out of our financial range.
3. No decision was made today and a committee needs to be further developed.
4. One further suggestion was to skip the fall conference this year and consider an ethics workshop for spring keeping it at 4 hours and using local talent!

DAKOTACARE Update
An update was presented on the DAKOTACARE issue. SDAMFT was invited to present to an oversight committee to make our case on July 22. A group of three will go. Morris reminded the group that under SD Codified law, 27SAI-3, 26.33 LMFT’s along with SW-PIP’s and LPC-MH’s were considered QMHP’s and this should be part of our inclusive discussion with DAKOTACARE as we pursue recognition.

2007 Legislative Session
Informally, the Attorney General’s office sees our law as both title and practice and practice always trumps title laws legally. A formal opinion is being sought from the Attorney General’s office. The Counselors want to try to get the practice law passed again for Counselors. MFT’s are in favor of supporting this action. Another meeting for the group to pursue legislation is tentatively set for July 7.

Kathy Sazama reported that she spoke with the head of the Medicaid program in Pierre early this year. He admitted that it may be time to review providership. Kathy resented him documentation for our training and he admitted he was not up to date. Agreement by those at this meeting that it would be beneficial to our new grads to pursue Medicaid reimbursement, and it may bolster our attempts with insurance providers as well. No plan in place currently.
