Mona contacted Joyce Voss and Dave Johnson in an attempt to receive an updated list of addresses for labels for the newsletters which are sent out twice a year. Morris suggested putting the newsletter on our web site. Ann Marie also suggested that Pam forward the minutes to Larry Porter for web site availability.
There was also a discussion about increasing member attendance at meetings. A suggestion was made to do a conference call during scheduled meetings. All agreed.
Fall Conference
The suggestion of contacting Mark Lasser was tabled. Mona also informed members that she has emailed and left messages attempting to contact an individual that presents Scream Free Parenting Workshops. She has received no response. Mary brought up for discussion the possibility of taking a break from the fall conference this year. Mona suggested that we consider having two local SDAMFT individuals to do a small conference. Suggestions were made for a half day ethics session and a half day presentation on another topic. Ann Marie suggested a panel format. Pam suggested the possibility of a parenting focus or session on adolescents. Individuals of interest may be J.C. Chambers, Doug Anderson and Dan Digatono. Discussion was brought forth about finding co-sponsor – possibly the NABS or an area Hospital to make a donation. Pam will have a discussion with Ben Leslie, Dean of NABS. Mona also suggested joint sponsorship: social workers or counselors. A suggestion was also made about conducting a conference mid-state. All agreed to have ethics as part of the fall conference. Mary will contact Heidi Evers about a partnership.

SDBCE-meeting 1/27/06
Mona Wade, Mary Guth and Morris Patzlaff will attend. Three attorneys will review our statutes.
Legislation – HB1136, HB11-37, SB35
Bill 35: review of line 17. Mona explained that what this means is that all these years the board has not had the authority to promulgate rules because the Legislation Research Council (LRC) left that out of our bill. Bill 1136 is about practice laws. Apparently the bills were separated between counselors and LMFTs (HB1136 & HB1137. There was discussion about the need for a lobbyist. Mitch is lobbying for both bills at this time however all agreed that we are financially unable to hire a lobbyist. Mona also mentioned concern that the bill says nothing about how people are grandfathered in. Ann Marie supported trying to resurrect the senate bill however this would take a lot of lobbying. Mona attempted to contact Dave Johnson for assistance – no response.
Cookie Day – 2/3/06.
This provides a great opportunity for us to meet and talk with legislators. Kathy and Pam will attend.
Next Meeting
January 28 – 9:00 a.m. – conference call. Ann Marie will provide instructions about receiving the call.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Pam Beck
